L’Ouche Bourgeonnant de St Satur

Posted on September 29th, 2008 in Hotel by admin

If you’re looking for a week-end get away in a pleasant location with good access to the region of La Nievre  then the Hotel de la Loire is the thing for you. The hotel is located in the village of St. Satur, 200 KM from Paris. The Hotel de la Loire is a 3 star hotel located right on the banks of the Loire. The hotel boasts 11 rooms all of which are decorated in differing styles from 70’s to Indian and Louis XV. In the village of St. Satur you will find 5 restaurants including a good traditional French restaurant right opposite the hotel which I can highly recommend. Better still make sure to take advantage of The Ship Pub Anglais next door for a pre dinner apero on the veranda over looking the Loire. If it’s hot, try and spend a few hours on the Loire beach just opposite the hotel and if your feeling adventurous rent a canoe for the afternoon.
Prices for room start from 70€ (including breakfast) for a double room in the low season rising to 88€ during the high season.
Other places to visit in the area include Sancerre (3KM) and Pouilly sur Loire (15KM)

Sancerre
Sancerre is a medieval hill-top town overlooking the Loire. Sancerre is principally known for its world class Sauvignon Blanc wine however before the 20th century, the region principally produced red wine using the Pinot Noir grape until, that is the region was struck by phylloxera during the late 19th century. As well as drinking its wine, be sure to try out the local goats cheese (Crottin de Chavignol).
In the town, you will find a pleasant bar and restaurant lined square, a maze of medieval houses as well as the remains of the original feudal château the Tour des Fiefs, built in 1390.

Chateau de Nozet, Domaine de Ladoucette

Sadly its not possible to visit the amazing Château de Nozet which is located near the town of Pouilly.
The estate is known to produce the world’s most famous Pouilly-Fumé wine. The De Ladoucette family have owned and managed vineyards in the region since 1787 when the Comte Lafond purchased the region’s largest wine estate from Louis XV’s illegitimate daughter. The 6th generation Patrick de Ladoucette took over the vineyards and wine making in the early 1970s - he was the first member of the family to concentrate exclusively on wine production and it is largely through his efforts that this estate now produces the finest wines of the region.
